The 4th Annual National Route 66 Pageant was held in Barstow September 10, 2005. Fifty-three entrants ranging in ages from 9 months to sixty-four years of age competed for twelve titles. Contestants wore sportswear and costumes depicting clothing worn during the "heyday" of Route 66 (40s - 60s). Patriotic colors and poodle skirts were popular.

The audience and contestants participated in the peppermint twist, hula hoop, and limbo rock. Flying poodles, bubble gum and lollipops were given to everyone.

Seven contestants competed in the optional talent competition producing fine singers and musical performers.

Winners received a custom Route 66 crown, an embroidered Route 66 sash, a custom Miss Route 66 denim jacket, and a trophy. Special award trophies were presented to Route 66 "heyday" costumes and talent competition. All other contestants received a custom Route 66 princess tiara and sash.

Pageant Director Kris Watson states that the mission of the Route 66 Pageant is to provide support to the goals of Route 66 Museums and Associations increasing public awareness of our nation's Mother Road. The Pageant celebrates the Route 66 spirit preserving the memories of Route 66 and promote tourism along Route 66. Route 66 Royalty is encouraged to support the many activities along Route 66.
